    Hi all,
as part of our new gardening club at school we're looking to develop our "wildlife area".We've be told the soil is nitrogen rich as we have lots of nettles and the pond is looking decidedly green!
Could anyone guide me as to what sort of wild flowers would do well in nitrogen rich soil as I've been told most would not thrive.

    Thanks

Most wild flowers like poor soil, it's true. You could grow sunflowers (pollen for bees, seeds for birds) though - they often go taller than 10 foot on the allotments, opium poppies do well too

How about growing something very hungry to pull a lot of the nitrogen out (and remove it so it can't rot back in) and then go to some wildflowers when the soil is a bir poorer?

Maybe that's a stupid idea, would take too long to work or something... but it's the first thing that came to mind for me.

You need a cornfield meadow. They have high fertility. Use lots of poppies and plants with corn in their name.

As corn fields are normally ploughed and resown, most of the plants will need soil disturbance in the spring. A quick fork over would do it.
