This is my first year at growing Fuscias. I've had two go's at sowing seed and nothing has happened? Is Fuschia germination problematic? Can anyone provide me with some killa tips of growing them?

Can't help I'm afraid - we had two seperate goes at growing them from seed and got nothing either time. I've a heated prop and grow lobelia and petunia from seed, but now I buy fuschias as plugs...

I've never managed to get Blacky to take from cuttings though, it's really difficult (and a shame, because I love it)

I was talked out of growing Fushias from seed as they don't typically grow true, I was told some types don't like temperature variations when germinating, you said you had a heated propagator, if its one without a temperature control on it only heats seeds it does not keep the temperature constant, I was lucky enough to have a generous friend who would grow them for me. there is the British Fushia Society The British Fuchsia Society they may be able to help furtherThought For The Day

I've only ever done them from cuttings too, don't think I've even seen seeds for sale but then again, don't grow many none edible stuff so probably never looked.

The only reason to grow fuchsias from seed would be to raise new varieties. I always grow mine from cuttings saved from plants I already have, or sometimes order in new plants from nurseries. Used to have loads but have had to downsize. My absolute favourite is Mrs Marshall, which I have kept going from cuttings since 1980 - superb basket fuchsia.Comment
