long trailer needed to cover ugly garden wall

hello,

I have a garden wall, about 3 feet high and thought I might cover it with something planted in the corner of the garden, which could grow up and ove the wall. i'd welcome any advice.

I did think about putting some troughs on the top of the wall and growiong something down and over, but there have been a spate of thefts in our area (that's London for you!)

Do you suppose I could use a climber and train it down?

Is the wall nice and sunny? I was just wondering if a wisteria would do the trick for you. Other trainables - parthenocissus henryi, or honeysuckle or even trachelospermum jasminoides.

Or a climbing Rose, or Actinidia, or Boston Ivy, or (real) Ivy, or Clematis.

Better still, a combinaton of two or three, for year-round effect! (But check the individual plants for suitability to the site first, obviously.)

Be careful...be very careful if you decide to plant Russian Vine...We had one and I swear you could sit and watch it grow....You got to be on the ball with this one, but as flowerofshona says it does smell nice and looks pretty. Had to get rid in the end...OH would spend each weekend pruning it back....it does grow quickly...believe me

I've got a Jasmine doing much the same thing in a trough on our North facing patio. It's never really in the sunshine, but seems happy enough. I fixed a couple of trelises on top of the wall, and it';s now made it's way up that far and has started to grow across the top.

I'd go for a 'Montana' variety of Clematis. They grow pretty quickly and have lovely flowers and seedheads. You can leave them to their own devices (just encourage them to twine round some horizontal support wires), and if it gets too big, just give it a haircut after its flowered in the spring.

Evergreen Climbing Hydrangea? Creamy white flowers June to Sept and has glossy green foliage. Will thrive on a sunny or shady wall.
