Dicentra virus

Hi everyone -

I think my dicentra (bleeding heart) has a virus - lots of the leaves have gone a limey yellow, and so have a few on a neighbouring rose. I also noticed one which had the same problem in someone's front garden the other day. The plant is quite large and the flower stems are now mainly drooping. Do I dig it up and throw it away or hope it will be better next year?

Hi Fran. Do you have it a long time? The yellowing sounds suspect. Especially if the rose has it to. Any chance of herbicide drift, maybe a glyphosphate one? If it's the tall one spectablis I think it's called, It'll be nearly be finished flowering now and if its not happy it will yellow and droop abit. Could be drought. Really! Give it a chance. divide it in the autumn if it's large enough and try a piece in a cool semi shade moist spot. Best of luck. Dincur

Sounds like a physiological problem not disease to me.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes - I have had it a couple of years and it is in a cool semi-shaded spot, which I admit had been dryish until I gave the garden a good soak a couple of weeks ago, and I have moved it this spring (early- soon after foliage started to appear) a couple of feet from where it was. I don't think it is a symptom of dryness tho. I'll leave it for now and see how it goes next Spring.

They hate being moved when in leaf, I moved mine once and it grew fine for abit then just died off till next year
