  • Climbing roses?

I bought a very pretty climbing rose a few weeks ago. Its in its pot apparently very happy and healthy in the sunshine.

I would like to train it across a wooden trellis against a brick wall but I have no idea what to do with the trellis??

I'm not very good at diy and screws and drilling and such. Does it have to be drilled in to the wall? If I didn't drill it but just placed right against the wall would it be okay or would it topple over?

Its a hardwood extendable diamond shaped £3 trellis from Wilkinsons.

Being a bit of a bodger myself, (and I have lost the charger to the drill and the electric screwdriver grrrr) I have used cup hooks screwed into the mortar before!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

What rose is it? You should Google and find out it's growing habit, how tall it gets etc. I've a feeling it will be too strong for your trellis unless you attach that to the wall.

You can buy some masonry nails with sort of ties attached. These can be hammered straight into the wall ( may be easier in mortar than in brick) The rose stems can then be attached to these and more can be added as it grows
