okay so the seeds i sowed at the end of may have now turned in to mini cacti i was gunna ask if anyone could identify any of them but i think its bit too blurry for that are they now big enough to be repotted? if so does it matter what size pot?
Hi Nordmead, nope, no idea what they are but congrats on getting them to grow! I'd carefully pot them on into individual pots now (using tweezers), only small pots about 2 inches across in either some specialist cacti compost or some multi-purpose type mixed with vermiculite/grit etc. to make it free-draining.
I love cacti as well but sadly know little about them - as SueA says Nick is your house expert.
I had one like Sue's purple flowered one. It bloomed first year I had it - quite abundantly - and surprisingly! Lovely 'crowns' of purple flowers.
This year it has flowered again and I now have mini fruits which I guess if I leave will give rise to a seed source in due course.
Agree with advice given above - cacti need to almost be neglected to thrive - DO NOT overwater or you'll pay the price. There is a special cactus compost which is very stony and you can also buy a catus feed which should be given only during the growing/flowering season.
i dont know if you saw the picture i posted a link to in my first post but ive already paid the price pretty sure its put on quite a bit of new growth though its all good
when should i stop watering? and do i gradually stop or just stop altogether?
