This was inherited from the previous home-owner. It has fruit in late summer/autumn. Does anyone know what it is?

I would hazard a guess at ornamental quince - are there any old fruits still on the branches?

You get a better crop from a specially bought edible quince but you can get enough fruits on some of these to make Quince Jelly (or wine!) in a good year.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
