It was my first year growing wallflowers and to be fair the results were disappointing. The flowers were sparse and in many instances the plants did not produce flower buds. Loads of lush leaves but no flowers. Has anyone any ideas why this happened?

Don't feed wallflowers, or you'll get lush green growth at the expense of flowers.

As TS and the others say, don't feed them. They are often sold as annuals, but I find that they do better as biennials. The only ones that I'm going to pull up are the ones that have already flowered for two years and are quite woody now. The smaller plants will be cut back and should flower well next year.
