Saving french marigold?

I bought 20 plug plants at wilko's today reduced to 85p and they had some dried flower heads (due to lack of watering). The rest have perked up once they were dunked in a tray of water.

So I snipped the dead flowers and picked the seeds. Do I have to dry them more? Or are they ok now to be used for next year?

Just pop them in a paper bag (not plastic) and put them somewhere dry - then in September or October pop them in an Envelope and label them. Flowers for next year!

You can try, by storing them in a paper bag as DTC says, but even though the flowers were dry the seed may not be fully mature.

I'm afraid Rusty is right: the seeds were not mature if the plants hadn't completely dried out (and turned brown & crispy)

oh, is it worth trying to pop a few into some compost to see if they are ok?

How would I save some for next year that I've planted out in between the tomatoes?

By all means try a couple to see if they're viable.


I let mine seed themselves (on the lotty). They are now about an inch high. You just need to let them get good and dead (brown & crispy) and then harvest the seed
