A friend sent me seeds from a plant growing at the roadside in Lincolnshire. Thought they were a wild flower but may be self seeded from a field grown crop, bearing in mind the area. This is what they look like in the second year. They are around 3' high and nobody can identify them, including the local garden centres. Can anyone help?

Salsify flower!
Thanks for that both of you! I have grown salsify in the past but always eaten it before it had chance to flower. I never thought the flower may be a vegetable. Obviously self-seeded from a crop. It would be good to grow as a decorative flower, but no good to cut, as it doesn't last long when you do.
