Plant ID please

Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone recognises this plant. Someone gave it to me last year (herbaceous perennial he told me)and it grew in a couple of months (see pics). It of course died over winter and so far this year seems to be struggling to grow at all. A few leaves that look curled up and not very healthy at all

Hi Doc,
It looks like a Helianthus to me. There are many different cultivars of this plant and they are usually quite vigorous, this hot weather maybe slowing its growth as they don't like to be in dry soil. I live quite close to you in Worcester and mine are three feet high and about three weeks from flowering.
So ... lots of sun and lots of water.

if they don't do well this year, dig them up in Autumn and replant in a different position.
