  • What can I grow in my north facing porch?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong section Wasnt sure where to put it!)

    Title says it all really

I have quite a large porch which is frost free in winter, lovely and warm in summer but doesnt get loads of sunshine. I could have several plants - hanging basket maybe and large plants on the ground.....??

I would love to have a grapevine out there, but I know they need oodles of sunshine.

Any advice/inspiration from you far more knowledgeable grapes would be very welcome

Foliage plants are usually happier than flowering/fruiting ones in low light conditions, if that's any help?! I'm absolutely useless with houseplants though...

Might be nice to have a supply of winter salad leaves?

What about fuchsias? They don't need a massive amount of sunlight

          Aspidistra, Northepaul!
And I have noticed that my ginger plant does not like direct sunlight much - it prefers the shadier side. Depends what you want to grow really, leafy houseplants, flowering houseplants or overwintering veg plants?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I have a north facing porch

I grow different ferns as I love the leaf textures and colours.
            Both deciduous and evergreen forms.

I grow buzy lizzies and begonias in the summer.

In the winter I grow pansies and violas.

All of these are in various sized pots and arranged in an attractive way.
            Well I try!
