  • roses too deep?

    Hi

A friend bought a pot grown rose and was told to plant it 6 inches below the pot. I assume that this is wrong. But will it be ok for a few years?
It is flowering, and ok at the moment.

Hi, have they already planted it? If they have and it is doing well then I would be inclined to leave it, but 6 inches sounds very deep to me (I usually plant at the same level as the pot or sometimes a little deeper for a more permanent plant)

I'd plant a clematis or a fuchsia deeper than the pot, but not a rose. Mind you, I'm no expert

Surely most roses are grafted - so if you get the grafting join below soil level the lower bit starts to take over? You can tell, as the root graft foliage will be different to the flower graft in the number and shape of the leaflets on each leaf stem.
