  • what can i grow..shady spot

    hi,

i'm looking for some flower suggestions, my front garden doesnt get any sun light at all, i've only got a little patch of soil to grow flowers in, 2 metrs long by 50 cm wide! there is bush growing there already, what could i grow here, the soil is good, just moist all the time due to the shade.!

i'm looking for flowers that will come back each year.

Not really a flower, but I have a similar part of my front garden, and different heathers are thriving there. No idea of the types, but there's like rusty reds, white, yellow, and purple.

    What about some alpines too?

If i remember correctly, some alpine flowers are shade loving...

Some bulbs, maybe some snowdrops or bluebells? I have some hostas, a mahonia and hypericum bushes in my shady spots. Not quite flower suggestions but they do grow well in shade

I have a mahonia in a very shady spot in my garden too - lovely architectural plant, and you get the fantastic yellow berries as well, in the late summer.

I'll second the astilbes. I've got a couple in my very damp dark front garden, north facing too. Rich coppery foliage and a pretty yellow flower.

I'm not suggesting you should buy from this company bb, just giving you an idea of what can be grown.

Ferns would be very happy, hellebores for early colour, candelabra primulas, hydrangeas. The list is endless. Oh and hardy fuschias.
