  • Dendrobium Propogation Help

I bought a number of these last year v.cheaply as they were on their last legs. I'm still quite pleased with the results I've had this year considering the low cost of the outlay.

5 of the 6 survived and 3 of those flowered this year. Flowers did not contain the colour as 'exepected' and remained a bland green. Would too much heat/light (bleaching?) in a sunlounge be to blame?

A couple have produced vigorous new shoots from below ground level. The dead stuff obvioulsy needs to be cut away and the new shoots take over - that one is easy for this novice!

Some others have produced mini plants above ground which have long white roots dangling down.

They look 'ripe' for snapping off and planting up and on.

    Would this be correct?

Thanks in advance to all you orchid specialists!

Ok - there's been a number of you who have looked and I thank you for that.

Unfortunately no advice forthcoming so I'm going to go with what 'feels' right!

I let you know in due course of my results and perhaps this will help someone else with the same problem.

Knowing my luck I'll probably be reporting back many instances of Dendrobium RIPs!

Thanks Zazen - much of what I've read on your link seems to confirm my gut feel - but at least there is some expertise backing this up now - so hopeful of better results.....unless my notorious brown thumb strikes them down!

        Cheers.
