  • What can I plant in north facing window box?

I have a large 'trough' type window box on the north facing front wall of my house - is there anything I can plant in it now to add a bit of colour and cheer?

In mine I have Wandering Jew & pelargoniums (tender). That'll go in the gh soon.
Also in flower in my shady borders I have Japanese anemone, primulas and viola. There's always ivy for greenery.

i was recently wondering this too, as I'd like a long trough under our window... I came across this: Winter flowering plants

Soooo... if I can get hold of any I'll let you know if they die or not

I do have different heathers in oour front garden though, they're in colour all year round - pink, purple, white and green!

Useful link Chris, I really must get some cyclamen. They always seem so expensive though (compared to a pack of seed anyway)

Mine have cyclamen and ivy in the winter, and busy lizzies in the summer. Both seem to thrive in the shade.

Thanks everyone - I hadn't thought of cyclamen - will head off to the garden centre this week
