Clematis Freckles

Does anyone grow this? Is it a must have for the spring garden or invasisve, not worth it. Any views welcome please

Stella I think this is the one I'm growing - very pretty flowers and they are out now (well they are under the snow at the moment). Foliage is evergreen and nicely shaped - needs cutting back from time to time but easy to prune. A nice winter climber.

Hi thanks, the flowers look white with sort of reddish freckles? I am looking for Autum/winter colour for the garden, but nothing that is difficult to grow

It is definitely easy to grow, Stella. Very pretty growing up something else. The flowers are not that big - hang down like pretty little bells. It is not flashy at all - that's why I like it.

May go for this then, do you ever cut any and put in a vase?

The flowers are a bit small for that (about an inch across) and they hang down like bells - you only see the freckles when you tip the flower up. And the stems are bendy.

Just to add that mine is in full flower now, in all this ice and snow! Very pretty little bells.

Hi J, Happy New Year to you, is it possible to propagate this from cuttings do you know?

Thanks Stella! And Happy New Year to you as well. I just did a quick google on propagating clematis cirrhosas and they can be done from cuttings, layering or seed in the summer! Remind me nearer the time and I'll send you some seeds and plant material to try.

Thanks, I will put a note in my diary, although I am not much good with cuttings. I am trying some forsythia at the moment and although the stems have flowered there are no signs of any roots

Read on website that an experienced gardenr called Joe cuts off flowering stems, puts them in boiling water for 30 seconds and then they go into a vase. Hence you can enjoy the scent indoors as well as out.
