  • Advice on pruning Rosa chinensis 'mutabilis'?

    Hello there,
does anyone have any advice on how to prune this rose type? Its the one that has coppery buds, that open pink and fade to yellow. It has two flushes of bloom and is used often in crosses to promote long flowering. Its a floribunda and puts up long new shoots each year..

    Any advice gladly received!

These roses are lovely and I've wanted one for sometime so I haven't got any hands on experience - with most of my rose I cut them back hard in early spring. But this link is pretty good http://www.finegardening.com/plantgu...ilis-rose.aspx

Thankyou Scarlet, I'll have a look. I'm blessed with quite a good garden centre near here, so was lucky enough to get one of these - its twiggy and leggy but really lovely when it flowers!

What a great website! It said to prune side shoots by 1/3 to 1/2 for maintenance, and to remove 1/4 of main shoots to the ground for restoration. Its a lovely thing!
        Thanks again,
        JM

Similar to what I do with my rambling rose - I find that when I have the courage to take a stem or two down to ground I do have several more pop up!! Good Luck!
