  • Camelias

This is a question for a friend. She has two well established camelias planted in open ground. Suddenly the leaves are going yellow then brown and falling.

Any suggestions as to treatment please.

If they're growing in alkaline/neutral soil (rather than acid), this could be the final stage of chlorosis. But if the soil's OK, have they completely dried out somehow?

They xould be dry as we have had very little rain this winter. Will suggest a good soaking. As for chlorosis, would sulphate of iron help do vou think?

Mine has been in a pot and watered and under our south facing porch and has done the same thing. I have concluded it was the severe winter -18 in our neck of the woods. There are leaf buds showing although it looks as though I'm going to have to cut the plant hard back. It's v. sick looking. According to Carol K on GW on Friday, it's OK to prune them quite hard and they come back, although next year's flowers might not happen, the following year's should be v. good as a consequence.
