About 6 plus years ago I prepared a bed for heathers - lots of peat. I planted 3 or 4 varieties each of spring and autumn varieties in blocks.
Both groups settled well, but out of ignorance, I now realise I should have prune the Callunas and they have grown up in height (now ~500mm) and gone somewhat woody and straggly; the Ericas have grown low and into a nice mat.
Can I recover the Callunas, or is it howk them out, trim the spready Ericas and start the Callunas again. With the follow-up question - pruning when?
Thanks
Rob
