My son's teacher collared me today to see if I can advise her about flowers/plants to grow for the schools' Summer Fayre in July. Veggies I am okay with but she had in mind flowers or possibly herbs in pots to sell. The children are 6 years old and so don't want anything that requires 'molly-coddling' but that will look nice enough to sell. Please, please can any 'Grapes' out there help me with my dilemma?

Herbs - mint! If you have any (and who doesn't) dig up bits of root and re-plant in small pots. You can also grow parsley, coriander, basil etc in small pots etc (but supermarkets also sell these cheaply so you may not get many sales unless people are feeling generous) You're a bit late to root cuttings of perennials and get them looking good for June, but I've rooted cuttings of bay, thyme, rosemary and lavender - in fact I'm a compulsive cutting taker.
As for flowers, if you have any perennials such as delphiniums, poppies, michaelmas daisies etc you can dig them up now, divide them, put some back into your borders and pot the rest up for sale.Comment

Coleus are good from seed as are Pansy's. You could always teach them how to take cuttings from Fuchsia's they root easily.
NA Kays do a small hanging pot ( like a mini hanging basket) for about £2 or less. They could buy some of these fill it with Universal pansies and charge £4 for them

Fuschia cuttings will root in water, the kids might like watching the roots grow. If the coleus went away well cutting from them root in water as well.Comment

I seem to remember that Impatiens root well from cutings this time of year too. You could maybe buy one and make some others....
