  • Phaelonopsis orchid - kiki's

I have a rather nice Phaelonopsis (no idea if the spelling is correct!) orchid that has flowered twice since i bought it. After each flowering i followed the instructions and cut the stem about 30 cm from the base. The first stem then produced a 'mini' orchid plant at the top, rather than another flower stem. The second flower sten which has been cut for some time is looking like it is also going to grow something at the top - i'm not sure if it will be another mini plant or a flower stem.

What do i do about these mini plants (or Kiki's as my mother calls them)? They have no roots so although you would take kiki's off and re-plant, i don't want to do this to these as they'd have nothing to root with!

    Any advice?
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted

This has never happened to my orchids but one of next door neighbours orchids grew a mini plant as you describe over last winter.
She just left it to grow, and it's now started growing roots.
Suggest you just leave it and see what happens.
