Veronica Going Brown

I planted two pretty purple Veronica plants in my front border, but they are slowly going brown, to the point where only the top inch and a half is purple.

Any ideas why? Is it because it has been so hot? Will they come back as purple later in the year or next year? (they are perennials).

I have noticed some bindweed and other weeds in my front garden I wonder if it is choking the plant. It was dug out before I put the plants in and I hadnt realised it was bindweed before.

Do you know the variety, or have any pictures? Sounds to me as if they have dried out. When did you plant them, and have you kept them watered?

They were planted mid-late May. They were were well watered for the first week that we had them but then we went away and although someone came in to water everything I dont know how well the front garden was watered (or how hot it was here). It is south-east facing in my front garden and the sun really does pelt down on it all day so I think there is a good chance they could have dried out.
Other plants planted at the same time (scabious, lavenders and dianthus) are all doing ok.
It is Veronica Ulster Blue Dwarf Speedwell.

Like you, I suspect they have dried out. You may be able to save them if you give them a really good watering now. You shouldn't need to water every day, but if you don't get much rain then give them a good soak every four days or so and see if they recover.
