Black Poppy

I decided to share this photo with you as I thought it looked pretty stunning. I'm particularly proud of this photo as I had to stand atop my planter to take it and this one was snapped midway through falling off . From seed sown at the start of April.

No idea how I managed to get the flower in focus still, the background seems to have a strange blur to it though, almost surreal.

I narrowly avoided a catastrophe that likely would have involved several tomato plants, a glass outside light and somebody else's digital SLR camera, not to mention the flower itself!

Bokeh/depth of field is the blur you mention, you tend to notice is more with an SLR as you can often shoot with a smaller aperture lovely flower though, don't forget to collect the seeds!

Vagetarian, the wife thinks your Black Poppy is beautiful, as do I, and if you don't mind us asking, were they hard to grow, and did you have to give them any special care.

They weren't hard to grow but I did lose most of the seedlings, my own fault. They were sown indoors in April which was a mistake as they all grew very flimsy stems without the wind to strengthen them, all flopped when they grew their first proper leaves. Planted out and most of them began to grow upright stems but severe gales ripped the majority out of the planter!

Would probably have been a case of sow and forget them if I'd planted out in the final position to begin with.

The variety is Black Peony, BTW.
