  • Hydranga - Need to keep it blue

    Hi all

My wife has bought us a hydranga.. I have one in the ground already. But it's pink.

So - how do I keep it blue? Is there a natural way, or do I need to buy some specialist plant-drug/feed??

    Thank you!!

I think you add iron sulphate to the soil on a regular basis ( how regularly -I've no idea!!)
This is a more concentrated version of putting rusty iron nails and tin cans in the soil.

I'm hoping to grow a variety of colours too...so I'll also be interested in the replies!

      Tell it rude jokes?

Sorry, no seriously, I think it's aluminium that keeps it blue and will probably stay bluer (is that really a word?) if you keep it in a container. In the ground they tend to do what they want!

Yep aluminium will keep it blue,if you are near an industrial estate have a drive around & look for engineering firms,go in & scrounge a small carrier bag of swarf & bury it in the soil around the plant
If you can get milling swarf rather than turning swarf,so much the better as it is in the form of chips rather than spirals
