  • climbing roses in pots to grow up arch?

    hello all,
this is the first time on this forum so hope i am in the right place! I will appeal to you knowledgable people in asking does anyone know or can recommend a climbing rose that i could grow around an arch but plant in a pot?? i am not sure if there is such a rose around that you can grow in a pot or what i should be looking for. I would quite like a red or pink rose but preference not important. any ideas would be very much appreciated. many thanks.

How big's your arch? And your pot?

I have a brilliant climber (Iceberg) but it's v.vigorous: its branches spread out 8ft each side of the main stem, and it frequently tries to grow over and down the 6ft fence its on

the arch is about 7ft in height, the pot is big and wide but have since been thinking i could plant the climibing roses in soil, (one on each side of the arch) i would have to chicken proof around the root of the roses but i guess they would grow better in ground. i would be looking for good climbing roses and ones that would also grow quite bushy at the top to cover the arch middle.

Bushy, shape and flowering is all down to the pruning you give them.

They'd def. do better in the ground than in pots. I bought some Golden Shower climbers for school at the £ shop y'day, to grow up and along the perimeter fence. They already have Warm Welcome, which isn't too vigorous at all
