  • Bare root privet - 3 looking sickly?

    Hi all

I planted 22 x 60-80cm bare root green privet plants 3 or 4 weeks ago, to form a new hedge behind my house. 19 of them have recently started to bud new leaves and look generally healthy, but 3 of them (that looked a bit dry when I planted them) still look dry, are losing their leaves and aren't budding new leaves that I can see. (I've watered them all regularly).
I know that privet can lose leaves when transplanted, but since the others are doing OK I suspect that the 3 problem plants may be dud. Should I leave them a bit longer, or should I be digging them up and getting replacement plants in before it's too late? Or, I could trim the dry ones back a bit and see if that kick starts them, but I'm not sure if this would really help...

    Many thanks in advance.

    They sound dead to me.

Privet is easy to grow from cuttings. The cheapest way would be to take your own cuttings next year to fill in the gaps

      Thanks Two Sheds

I assume as they were dodgy to begin with the garden centre would replace them, but taking cuttings would be less hassle... I'll see how they do.

      Cheers.

If you still have the receipt, I'd do both. Get your money back, and also take cuttings
