      Thanks Two Sheds - Lamium... flowering at the moment in my pots having survived some really strange weather over the last few months here on the south coast
      A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows

        Veronica peduncularis 'Georgia Blue' is an excellent spreader for me.
        It is in flower at the moment and is tough as old boots but easy to control
        My soil is heavy clay and the aspect south.

          I've also thought of another option for you; Epimedium. There's a weed version colonising happily all over the farm/stables. Round the bottom of the buildings, even the bottom of the straw stack. Quite hardy, and pretty little heart-shaped leaves.
