  • Potting on tiny seedlings.

What is the best way to go about it??
Ive got forget me knots, lobelia and snapdragons growing in modules but due to the seeds being tiny Ive got quite a large (but teeny!) clump in each module. Im worried I'll kill them off if I try and tease out every seedling.....or should I pot on in little clumps??

Let them get a bit bigger then tease them out with the end of a plant lable, pointy end, make a hole in the module with a pencil or something like and drop the roots of the seedling in and gently firm the soil. Water gently and there you go! Or let them grow and then thin to the best plant.

I have tobacco plants on the go at the moment and the seed is like dust so when they are large enough to handle that is what I shall be doing'

Now you understand why the instructions on the packet said "Sow thinly"!

Wait until their true leaves are showing, pick them up by the seed leaves and NOT their stems, plant a little deeper in their new homes. Best wishes and cheers, Tony.

You can let them grow a bit bigger, so they're easier to handle, before you split the clump. Don't worry too much ~ split the clump, then split again, and again if necessary as they grow bigger.

Next time: you might sow more thinly (no, I don't either, it's very difficult with teeny tiny seeds)
