The labels just say Astilbe (White Wings & Touch of Pink), and Astilbe Japonica (Lollypop). I can't relate those to the ones listed on the site. Maybe I will err on side of caution and just enjoy them for their flowers as originally intended.
I like the PFAF database - its the first one that I look at for info on a plant's uses. Is there any indication on the plant label as to which part is edible? Who were the suppliers?
I wouldn't risk it myself and I'll try eating most things!
Hi, me neither - I will not risk trying these. The plant label doesnt say much at all about what part might be edible. There is no clear indication of supplier except a logo with the initials "GGG" on it.
... ok now here's something else. the hardly noticable smallprint (in several languages - hence I didnt spot the English part earlier) says "for decoration purposes only, not fit for consumption" which conflicts with the large print giving details of the uses for the plant. I think I will bring this to the attention of the garden centre.
I think it may be a good idea - is this something i have to request? Just rang the garden centre to highlight it and they said they would look in to it - I go there often so will be interesting to see if the plants are still labelled as such next time I visit.
