Rhodochiton how to grow

I sowed some Cobaea and some Rhodochiton on the same day they germinated i pricked them out on the same day the Cogaea are now $inch's high the Rodochiton are still the same size not grown at all but they have not died what have i done wrong

My guess is that they flowering climbing plants - but i have no idea how to grow them sorry

they are flowers that climb quote outsanding climbing or container plant the purple Bell vine has very striking-blackish purple inside red-purple bells180-230cm 72/90 inhes that what it says in catalogue jacob

Thanks Jacob, I will google for a picture. They sound interesting. I'm looking for climbers at the moment. Are they annual or perennial?

I suspect you rhodoshitthing is making root and wll suddenly leap forthnow we are having some warmer weather - I could be wrong of course it may be that it just doesn't like the compost it's in .... it does happen. We have some excellent compost in out lottie shop at £2.80 for 75lts at the moment (shameless plug)

we have movement two little leaves have popped out now making four on each seedling less than 1 eight of inch it is hard to believe that these things are going to reach 7 or 8 feet in height i will keep you posted jacob

Hi jacob marley!

I think you'll find that Cobaea needs sowing Jan/Feb to reach it's full potential, as it needs 'some 6ft' before it will decide to flower?

I grew The Purple Bell Vine Flower a few years back, and it is truly lovely, but if you try to propagate it too early, it 'takes its bat away, and won't play', so better to start it off in March/April, like it says on the tin, and light levels are important to its emergence.
And yes, it's very slow to start, but once it gets going, you'll be fine with it. It's one of life's 'slow starters'.
I have some Lab-Labs on the go at the minute (a bit like a purple-podded Mangetout) and CAN I get them to grow more than a centimetre a month? No.)
I would, however, question, the estimated height/trail of the Bell Vine? The ones I grew never achieved that, and that's not to say it's not 'attainable' with fabulous growing conditions. Just so you don't get 'disappointed'.

Hi Wellie it is not the Cobaea that is the problem they are going well loking like stags antlers about 5 inches high it is the Rhodochiton but they have just started to grow a bit thanks for info Jacob

Rhodochiton is an annual and not hardy so may not work for you, but hell if you don't try you definitely won't succeed. For hardy climbers what about Clematis Armandia which is evergreen and there are several evergreen honeysuckles I have Mint Crisp which is a very attractive two tone green.

Thanks Grandpadragon. An evergreen Clematis sounds intersting, although I noticed my holly bush didn't come through the winter very well. Is Mint Crips a honeysuckle or Clematis?

Hi Jennie,
Mint crisp is a Honey suckle, I have another which is evergreen but dont know the name, it was sold as winter flowering honey suckle and the leaves are plain. Clematis:- Armandi has dark green leaves about 2" wide and 6-8"long and appears vigorous has white scented flowers in early spring. Cirrhosa is also evergreen and the best known one is "Freckles" never grown it but my sister has and says its good. Finally I have just bought (still in pot) a new one called Pixie or Early Sensation it is in flower now (small white) with lovely curly leaves a bit like parsley and is supposed to only get to 6' maximum. Hope this helps and the info will cost you a cucumber sarnie if ever i get to Shetland

A update on the Rodochiton they are now developing the third set of leaves the slowest thing that i have grown so far but we will persevere i hope it is worth it in the end the Cobaea about a foot high now growing like it should do they are going to be planted in between the Sweetpeas and Morning Glory with a bit of luck Jacob
