  • Mycorrhizal fungi when planting - for or against?

I'm wondering whether I should buy some to put in with the bare root roses I'll be planting. Should I bother though, it's quite dear (£8 a bag!). If I preserve some compost on the roots and mix a bit of the soil in too then the Mycorrhizal fungi should be there anyway, right? I know it should lead to a stronger root system before winter in theory, but I'm not sure if the benefits make up for the steep price.
Has anyone used the rootgrow Mycorrhizal and noticed any difference? Should I bother with it?

    Thanks

I used it when I planted climbing roses near the house wall - the soil was very poor and I couldn't improve it much because it's a small slice between a concrete path and the wall. With the Mycorrhizal Fungi they really romped away
I think it's worth adding on poor soil - but wonder where you are buying it from that it's that price. I got mine with the roses from David Austin and a 90g pouch is enough for 3 bushes and costs a few pounds. Unless you have loads of bushes to plant you shouldn't have to pay more than that.

I replanted a perennial flower bed at home and moved all my fruit to a new plot last Spring. I used m.... fungi and everything took off really well. I have good crops of gooseberries and blackcurrants despite the weather and a move. I would use it again.

I bought some in the end and put some on the rose and lavender roots and on a grapevine.

It kinda killed most things I put it on although this could have also been the rubbish weather. It worked well on the tomatoes though.

Used it with most things, particularly anything perennial, such as trees and bushes, and most things did well...

I got mine from the car boot at £1 a bag!
