Help!

I have a plant - a vine - 'rescued' from the MiL.

She was taking it out because it was too vigerous. It had been in her garden two years and was making a break for it over the roof! (standard two story house)

It did flower last year, up in her gutters, and from memory (and the binoculars) the flower was orangey/yellow, trumpet shape - remenicent of Datura.

What it this plant please?

It has been allocated 12' of fence and I know it grows stem roots like a climbing lone ranger.

Do you have any pictures of the flowers? Can't tell from the stems/leaves what it is.

No I haven't

The MiL was desperate to get rid of it and we cut it back to a managable size as shown, I wasn't sure it would take but it seems happy enough!

It only had the one flower I know of (any others were out of sight above the roof) and that I decribed.

It was just a chance someone might know - I'll have to wait and see what happens. I might ask again as and when it decides to flower

Hi TPeers, what you have got is a Campsis. Super RAMPANT self clinging climber but needs to be kept under some sort of control. Mine had to be cut back hard this year as the builders were rendering the house and I just will have to wait and see if I get any flowers. Really georgeous when they do flower.

Sounds like I might need to have allocated more than 12' of fence! (the fence is 6' high) I will try training it low and hope that it does ok.

I wasn't expecting flowers this year, it was cut back to only a couple of bare stems - I was just amazed that the plant was only two years old, rampant seems quite a mild description of the growth rate if it is happy!

I did take the precaution of planting it twenty foot from the house
