A friend had one and I tried several times to take cuttings - no joy - but I remember wanting one!! Wonder why I didn't buy one

I'd suggest an evergreen clematis, perhaps something like Fragrant Oberon. Here's a link: Clematis Fragrant Oberon - Taylors Clematis

It is evergreen, flowers April/May, will tolerate shade and needs no pruning. However, it does only grow 4 - 6 feet high, so not a biggie. You could team it up with a non-evergreen but larger clematis, which will flower in summer, to give you a longer period of interest. Here's a link to 'shade-tolerant' clematis pages! Clematis Will Tolerate shade - Taylors Clematis

            All clematis are fast-growing.

            Hope this helps.

              Great suggestions! Thanks guys

I only want it to cover one or two fence panels and can plant more then one so maybe eventually a mixture.

Chocolate vine certainly sounds interesting and the Clematis looks pretty

I want honeysuckle in another spot in the garden so thank you for that too!
