Roses: quid shop and a penny less shop ones

In my enthusiasm, I have amassed a few. In trying to get my head around them, I've been searching the forum for advice and suggestions, experiences had with them.

Do you have any? The ones that p**ndland/0.99 places have on their shelves.

Have they been any good, were they labelled wrong,were they not worth the quid?

I'm intrigued, as i say, I have a few. What could possibly go wrong for a quid, what might actually go right! The ones I have, are diddly at the moment. Sank the last batch today. I couldn't possibly get anymore. Mama h might shout at me.

The roses were all smallish, covered in what I believe is a harmless green wax. It will be interesting to see what happens to them.

I bought two last autumn - one white one for my garden (which I've planted) and a yellow one which I gave to my mum - neither of them look particularly healthy - but that might be the time of year - will see in spring.

I think if you buy them before they've been in the shop too long, and you sort out the ones with nice thick stems - then they're a bargain

I've bought some after a rummage and they've done well - although one 'Crimson Rambler' turned out to be a white one

I bought various yellow ones a couple of years ago. All still healthy but every colour but yellow!!!

See, I pounced last week. Knowing that they have them in at some point. If they end up funny colours, that's fine. Will they flower though, this year, or will I have to wait an age? Even then, the packaging says they will get to a metre high. I would like them to do something this year!

I left one in the pot I bought it in, it's grown quite large and flowered - so mine, was a bargain! Think it was from poundland - or whatever they have them in the tall pots.

I want another blue one. Did have a red white and blue theme, that is creeping out of the window.

I've bought them: they usually turn out the wrong colour though. Same with anything else bought from the cheaper shops.
My home garden only has white or blue flowers. Anything red or purple goes to the allotment, anything pink or yellow (*shudder*) gets replanted at school.

Take cuttings from your blue one!! Won't even cost you a Squid
When you prune your roses, shove the cuttings into a slit trench. Wait for them to grow. Easy peasy

And purple one would do nicely. I rather like c*dbury purple. I can only imagine what colours the roses will be now. Will be interesting to see if anything happens to them. Will be gutted though, if nothing happens at all.

I have a policy of replanting any prunings that I take - whether its fruit bushes or shrubs. Most of them survive with minimal tlc

I bought the last of Aldi's stock last october - 10p each, 17 - £1.70 for the lot. At the checkout I got some funny looks for a while, but I left the shop pretty smugly after handing over a 2 quid coin.
They seem fine so far and showed signs of life before the snow arrived. Iceberg got a bit hurt by a bad frost but the others are fine. I planted 12 in the end and gave the others away.

The pound shop ones look alright too, but younger and smaller than the Aldi ones. I haven't bought any yet but have thought about putting some on the family graves, some hardy bushy types.

Tough as old boots that one. Mine has grown from a stick to a plant spanning 20ft of fence, and desperately tries to outgrow me on my ladder, as I try to keep it to the height of the fence (7ft).
