You can certainly buy a packet of Bishops' Children seed from Graines Baumaux. (or from most UK seed companies.) These are every bit as good as the original Bishop of Llandaff in my view, and a much cheaper way of building up a good stock of dahlias. They flower easily from an early sowing and you can then dig up the tubers and overwinter them, or just leave them in the ground if they are fairly deep and protected from the worst of the wet and cold.
Good thinking Bertie, but Bishop's Children are different colours not the red of the original Bishop of Llandaff.
Perhaps Ive just been lucky, but I have 'Children' which are virtually indistinguishable from the parent Bishop, and certainly in the same deep red colour!
They certainly are lovely looking plants. I've never been successful with them - the tubers always seem to rot (I haven't lifted them mind, so probably why!)
