    you can train them horizontally and of course you can also pinch out the growing points when they reach whatever height/length of stem you desire

      That's great, thanks for the advice Aberdeenplotter. I've never grown them before and didn't expect so many to germinate (so now I have around 150 seedlings). Will train them along the fences as well as the trellis and wigwam.

        WPG that's a lovely idea I too have such a fence and I too am going to nick your idea as I love sweetpeas and can't get enough of them
