Cheops - thanks for the suggestion - will have a look. I've seen other websites that have a minimum order of 50. A lot of sites have closed now for sending out Hyacinths, so I must get a move on. I've seen some sites having good offers but on Hyacinths packs of different colours. I want just the one colour. I know white Hyacinths (which was my original plan) won't look as effective as they would have done in a black planter; this makes me wonder if I should go for pink Hyacinths as the planter is pink-ish.

I agree absolutely that one variety in one colour is very effective indeed, so I'm sure whatever colour I end up with, it'll look good.

Chris - I found this planter in my garage. It's a discarded base of a water feature. Inside it has another level (the base - where the water pump would go) so I put broken crocks in there to give it some drainage. There are no holes in it at all. If I remember I'll take a pic when the Asters are finished to show you.

It's only because of the beautiful weather - particularly nice today - that this planter full of Asters has been such a success - as I planted the seeds very late. I have been covering it at night with a light polythene sheet, just to ward off the cold as I want the flowers to last as long as possible.
