pretty flowers for shaded areas please

the left of my garden only sees sunlight for the last part of the day due to next door garden being a over grown mess (hopefully get stuck into that next year cant wait) so what im needing is some nice pretty border flowers that thrive in shaded areas.

Any ideas?

Most summer bedding plants prefer full sun, so you have to think woodland plants or perennials, though having said that, begonias do OK, and fuchsias are not too fussed about being in the shade, though they will flower later than those in full sun. I have a hardy fuchsia that gets no direct sunlight at all, and it starts to flower about July and last year was still flowering in November.

Foxgloves are good in shade, pulmonaria (lungwort) is flowering now, the non invasive comfreys, especially the white flowered one, michaelmas daises, though they will stay a deeper purple than they would in sunshine, dwarf delphiniums do OK. Dwarf are better than the tall ones, 'cos they will grow taller anyway, after the light, I grow Magic Fountains, which are supposed to max at 3ft, and mine are usually about 4ft.

Then there's bergenias, hostas, the cultivated dead nettle (lamium), Japanese anemones (though they can be a b@gger to dig out if you get fed up with them), likewise alchemillas and euphorbias and hellebores.

Oh, and lily of the valley for scent.

Nicotiana don't mind a bit of shade; one of my favourites. Great evening scent as well.

I would also have suggested busy lizzies, also happy in shade, but they are dying everywhere from downy mildew. So steer clear until someone finds a strain with decent resistance.

Second begonias. Pansies do ok too and are easy to pick up. Had a mass of nasturtiums last year in a north facing bed under a wall. Went a bit wild as they do, but lovely splashes of colour.
