  • Gardening club flowers .....or weeds?

I ordered about 150 plug plants from the gardeners club and planted them out about a month ago.
Yesterday i went out to do some weeding and all the weeds are right next to the flowers, there is none in any of the soil between the flowers only right next to them, pretty much all of them actually. Is it possible that they have come with the flowers and has anyone else had this happen?

Or when you dug the holes the soil was disturbed and brought the weed seeds to the surface? Or you've water the plants and therefore the weed seeds too.

I've never had weeds with plug plants.
What sort of weeds are they?

I'm wondering why you have no weeds anywhere else? In a month my garden would be overrun with the bl**dy things.

VC, as i was typing it i knew someone would ask me that. I have no idea, i knew i should of taken some pics, i will next time.

I seem to get minimal weeds, not sure why, but these were all the same and i havent seen them before so they are definitely a new type of weed to my garden, plus a few of those thistle-y ones too....bizarre.

I had some plug plants from the Gardening club this year - I think they were about £9.99 with free p&p. They were tiny plugs in modules about the size of my little finger nail - and had to be potted on - before they could be planted out. Did you have to do that with yours?

Yes, i did but they were probably twice the size of yours by the time i got them. I potted them on in to small pots for about three weeks while i prepared the beds and then planted them out. They are doing much better than i thought they would as the soil is not good at all and overall i am really pleased with them. The offer was buy 8 get 16 free, they were a bit bigger than plugs though and also buy 40 get 80 free which were the little plugs, all bedding plants.

Could the weeds have been in the soil that you potted on into..........? (I'm sure that's bad grammar but you know what I mean )

Lol, i know what you mean.
I dont think so as it was potting-on compost that i've used for loads of other things too without problems.

Actually, do you know what, i dont think i have used it for anything else, i think i bought it specially for the bedding plants as i had so many.
Thanks Vc, i'll use it to pot something else and see what happens.

Just put some in a seed tray and see if anything emerges I'd be interested in a photo of the flower bed weeds - if you can.

Hi VC. Have a look at the photos, see what you think. As you can see they all seem to be right next to the flowers and the rest of the bed is clear (thats not because i weeded, i promise it was that clear before i started). These weeds have grown since sunday.

Please dont tell me they are beautiful flowers and i've pulled out a load of freebies )

The spindly plants in pics 4 & 5 look like weeds, pic 3 I don't know where the weeds are.
Pics 1 & 2 look like real plants - a bit like cerinthe maybe - not really sure. I'd leave those and see what develops
Anyone else have any ideas ?

I really don't know what you are complaining about Tina, there are very few weeds in your pictures, and those that may be there have probably blown in on the wind.
