  • Unbelievable Sweet Peas....... but there is a problem!

This year has been the best year in 5 for my sweet peas. Such a bounty of flowers with the deepest scent you can imagine. This may be down to the fact that I have collected seed from my plants for the last two seasons. I do notice that in the early weeks of flowering the stems are lovely and long. As the season progresses the stems become shorter and thinner. Is this normal? Anything I can do to ensure long stems for longer?

Give them a feed and plenty of water.

In my experience, the stems are always longer at the start, then they progressively get shorter and shorter.

I just dig out my shorter vases by the end.

yes, perfectly normal. Because I don't water mine (always too busy to), mine go short very quickly
