  • Which of these perennials are easy to grow?

I'm in East Anglia... Suffolk to be more precise and I'm really looking for some plants to have in the garden year after year or a minimum of two seasons but they must be hardy due to our freezing winters and sometimes blistering heat.

I've picked English Lavender as my main guy for a small hedge and also got some mint and Aubrietia for ground cover.

    Also I have considered:

    Lemon Balm
Russian Sage (would like something with colour)
    Blanket Flower
    Something like Moss Phlox

    Any other suggestions?

Lemon Balm is very easy - will take over given a chance. Try the variegated form which is more attractive and less of a thug.
I like the hardy geraniums. Good for ground cover, flower for much of the year, pest free, die back in winter so underplant with spring bulbs. 10 AGM hardy geraniums / RHS Gardening

nooooo, Mint will be worse than twitch if you plant it in the ground it spreads like the plague and is as bad as lemon balm

It depends on the size of your borders really. If you are making a proper hedge then you need to plant about 9" - 12" apart and they'll spread about 2ft in all directions (depending variety) Go for English lavender it's hardier than the french and smells nicer. 'Hidcote' is a good variety nice purple flowers 'Munstead' is another slightly more compact, but you could add white's and pink flowered varieties to breakit up if thou want 'Lodden Pink' or 'Arctic snow'

Other plants that would look good with this would be one of my favourites, English roses - try any of the following

Lichfield Angel - pale creamy apricot
      Graham Thomas - golden Yellow
The Pilgrim - Yellow centre outer petals pale cream/white

Living where you do I suggest a trip to Norfolk Lavender if you've not already been,
