Here in Torquay we have more stone walls than people, many of them are covered in campanula, long chains of blue bell like flowers that seeming grow in any tiny crevice. It flowers right through (I still have some in flower now) and looks after itself. bees love it to.

If you pull off the old flowers and seed heads it makes even more.

Polycarbclare, this year I grew some erigeron from seed, and it's great for putting in cracks and crevices. The seedlings were microscopically small at the start and I thought they'd come to nothing, but actually they've turned into very robust plants. They've been flowering since June, and still going strong. To grow them in small crevices, the seed can be mixed with some wet soil and put straight into the crack. See here for more details

Went to my local nursery today who undercut the well know garden centres and picked up some Aubretia really cheaply. So I'm really pleased with my purchase. Thanks for all your advise.
