Yes they can be planted now. I think they look better planted in groups not rows. When I moved here about 16 years ago I planted about 20. Now I have hundreds, in fact they need a serious thinning out! We have fairly heavy clay (there was a brickworks in the village making bricks for sewer lining!!) however I have improved it over the years. Enjoy them.
