  • Growing poppies in 2014

I've just read a lovely suggestion on a fb group about 'growing poppies in 2014 to commemorate 100 years since the start of the 1st world war.'

I think I'll be planting some.

    Any hints?

I have tried in the past without much luck, but my neighbour had a great display of them this year from wild flower seed.

I don't think I want to commemorate the start of a war that led to the deaths of an estimated twenty million people.

      Ask me again in 2018.

      Endless wonder.

Mm, you might have a bit of a point.. Maybe though if we all planted poppies by the time 2018 turned up we might have had enough poppies to remember each person who died?

Hints; sprinkle some poppy seeds where you want the plants and let them get on with it.

I grow poppies every year; and I guerrilla 'threw them out of the window when stuck in traffic' some on the A52 central reservation 6 years ago and they are now growing there on their own. They don't need any help to grow to be honest.

This is how I like to see poppies - a field near me, summer 2006

If any one needs any I have millions! I've harvested the ones that went a bit crazy in my garden. They are all in a envelope mixed, so I have no idea what you'll end up with, but feel free to message me and I'll send you some There are the usual looking red ones - but about 7 shades of red, ones with enormous black centres, purple frilly ones, orange corn poppies, my garden looked mad and straggly at the same time! They took over everything
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!
