  • Wisteria plant, need some advice please x

I sowed some wisteria seeds a few months ago, say bout 2 1/2 months. They are indoor watered reg, the seeds were left over night in water before sowing as instructed but nothing! Nothing! not even a crack of green is this normal?

They are just in a old washed out paint drum indoors till next year, well that if they grow?

Wisteria are very hit and miss with seed. They can take over 10 years to flower if grown this way.

I know that they have very hard seed coats...sometimes filing down the outer shell of the seed with a file can help water to penetrate the seed.

September? That's an unusual month to be sowing things, seeing as it's now winter and nothing will germinate in the dark cold months.

Even if you manage to get seed to germinate, it will be at least 10 years before you get flowers. I would just buy a plant. Or if you know someone who has one, take some cuttings. More info on wisteria here Wisteria / Royal Horticultural Society

Remember Im an amateur. I thought that if I grew it indoors it would be ready to go out by the time summer came? I take it thats not how things work? :/

                I thought that.
Mind you once they get going there is no stopping them, they took over one side of my house. They are as penetrative (is that a word) as Ivy and can soon end up inside yout roof space or even rooms through air vents etc.

Nothing is impossible but they would need heat in there and maybe grow lights too. A lot of work and time when you can get a plant fairly cheaply in the spring. It is a spectacular plant when established.

Plants don't grow in winter (generally), that's why most sowing advice is for March onwards. It's not just a heat thing: winter is too dark.
