  • safflower?

what do people think of the safflower?

I order a lot of flowers from china and when I bulk buy I get gifts usually safflower.

Ive sowed some and they are seedlings atm they grew very quick and are happily sitting on my window sill but I don't know anything about them.

    Are they friend or foe?
I dont want to plant something that I will be picking out of every crevice but the one I planted them in for years to come.
I read they dont make good honey makers so I wont be putting them next to the hive (if I get round to building one this year)

    What do you guys think?

Reading up on it, Safflower is grown in arid conditions with a short rainy season. Not exactly suited to UK weather. No wonder they are sending it for free!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Have you googled for it,i just typed the flower name only,it brings up several other links to look at,from what i gleaned,it's an annual, birds like the seed, the seeds are used to make an oil,and are a thistle type plant,in red orange ext,you need to look yourself then you can make a judgement, that way you will not end up sorry for passing them on

I get safflower seeds in my parrot's mix. I grew them one year, but they're not very attractive plants, and pretty spiky too
