So I tried to take seeds from the marigolds I have when they were on their way out last year but was unsuccessful, but me and the bairn has been out in the garden today and came across loads, think I was trying to take em to early last year. So now im wondering will the plant that I got the seeds off come back this year or do I dig it out and re-sow?

    Thanks guys

French marigolds will not come through the winter, you will need to re-sow. If they are pot marigolds (Calendula) then they may survive but even so fresh ones will probably do better.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

What marigolds are we talking about here? If they're alive now, in January, then I'm guessing pot marigold (calendula)

I think I remember talking with you about seed-saving. You must wait until the plant is brown & crispy. If you take seeds off a green plant, the immature seeds won't be ripe, and won't germinate [/QUOTE]

No. Once they've made seed, their job is done and they die

my pot marigolds come up over and over again, probably because they reseed themselves but i'm convinced some over winter.

Yes pot marigolds/ calendula do overwinter as small plants ready to flower early summer. On my plot I've lots of poppies and nigella which have overwintered too.

I don't know about over wintering but the ones I planted out last year still have a few flowers on!

Is your poppies in a pot out side wendy? Ive got poppies for this year but I dont know whether to put them in a pot or in the ground. Ive sowed loads of seeds over the past 2 year and most havent come up. What do you think?
