We've got a wisteria on our west facing wall and as you said, it's worth the trouble for the flowers and scent. The wall in question is south facing and at the moment I like the idea of the euonymus. Some of the wisteria will be trained around onto the south wall as well. I didn't know cotoneaster was slow growing. I planted a deciduous one this year on our east wall and it grew 2ft!!! We have that mainly because of the lovely autumn colour it goes. Is the evergreen somewhat different then? Loving all the comments and ideas but not sold on ivy. It's a prejudice, I know.
