That's the fun bit. Haven't entirely decided but I want to include runner beans, sweet peas, nasturtium, gypsophila, hibiscus. I'm very open to suggestions though. I have a raised bed but I'm thinking of putting peas here too. I like the mix and match idea. I didn't get blisters but I can't walk or move, however a glass of wine has proved an effective joint lubricant 😃😃😃
I love a new patch of planting space. Can I suggest that the strip by the fence is very narrow so it might be difficult to keep plants there within their allotted space. Why not make that bed a bit deeper and whilst you're at it round off the corners so it will be easier to go round with the lawnmower. Plus you get a bit more planting space.
Did you make a turf stack?
That's a good point wendy. I wasn't going to dig along their initially because we plan to (eventually) put a patio area for a table and chairs in that bit. I'll take another look I think because it will look better if it's wider and more rounded. The turf we used for a number of things - a bare patch on the lawn, leveling off the verges on our drive, and some I put at the bottom of a new raised bed, so it all got used. I didn't want to do a stack really because I have a compost heap, a pile of manure in bags, leaf mould, a greenhouse, and space is limited :-)
In the thin section you could put some trellis and climbers (peas, beans, small squashes, or even passionfruit) if you didn't want to lose much more lawn.
